To each his own. To me my own.

The radio stations are having a field day with this little clip this morning. In none other than our very own Rock Hill, SC, a man was arrested and charged with hitting another motel guest in the face with a snake. Yeah, you heard that right. Only in the south, baby – only in the south.

So I got my first paycheck since switching my exemptions from one to zero. Exactly a seventy-five dollar difference (cut) in pay. Owww DAMN that hurts like a bitch. Expletive, expletive, expletive. Shit.

Gotta get in the zone. A different zone. Look forward to the weekend, Bon, quit thinking about bills and such. You pay what you CAN pay, no amount of worrying will aid you in doing any better. Effing BREATHE.

Abs are sore. Yeah. Focus on the abs.

Pink so rocks – and this song sums me up today.

The mariner has landed

I’ve decided that my ‘theme’ of the summer is gonna be nautical (yeah I know, my theme every summer is nautical). I’m now on a very stringent search for a silver pendant for a necklace. Nautically-themed, and I definitely want it to include an anchor. I ran across this one online and fell in love with it. I found it about a month ago and saved the picture, but I don’t know what website I found it on! The dufus I am.

Onto the rant of the day. Why can’t everyone just mind their manners and act nice? It’s not that difficult really. There’s always gonna be that idiot out there waiting to ruin your day. If ya don’t believe me, just look up a (positive) news story or youtube video, and check out the flow of comments underneath. I guarantee you the more comments it has, the more idiots on there saying stupid chit just to try and stir the pot or offend someone. Now I see why alot of people who upload vids to youtube disable the ability to leave comments.

So a famous television producer (formerly of Survivor) is being held in suspicion of the death of his wife while on vacation in Cancun. Now it’s come out that last weekend she found out he was having an affair. YOU KNOW ME, HERE IT COMES…. WTF??? Are ALL men cheaters? Wait, I know the answer to that – but it still doesn’t stop me from asking the question from time to time. What the hell are these men thinking? With? Ya wanna have sex with someone other than your wife? Okay, then save her the pain and humiliation and just separate first. Is it really that hard? Pardon the pun…

It’s all a big steamin’ pile of pelosi, I tell you.

I received an email recently that I just have to share the contents of.

(No, not curse… we call it cuss here in the south so get used to it)

Years ago when I sometimes used unsavory language, I often used the expression “Bull S***.” As I grew up a bit and discovered it was not necessary to use such crude language, the expression became “BS.”

What did I really mean when I used those expressions? I meant that something was ridiculous, or idiotic or a half truth or just plain stupid. It covered any number of negative formats. The dictionary defines it as: nonsense; especially: foolish insolent talk.

I have decided that I no longer will use either of those expressions in the future. When I have a need to express such feelings, I will use the word “pelosi.” Let me use it in a sentence. “That’s just a bunch of pelosi.”  I encourage you to do the same. It is such a nasty sounding word, it really packs a punch, we are no longer being vulgar, and it clearly expresses our feelings. If enough of us use it, perhaps the word could be entered into the dictionary.

When on a ranch watch your step and don’t step in pelosi. It will get on the bottom of your boot and won’t go away until the next election. What a fitting and descriptive legacy for the Speaker of the House!

Please and thank you.

Second chances

I don’t know what it’s gonna take for me to figure out that 20 minutes is not enough time for me to get ready for work in the morning. Ugh.

Ever since 9/11, I’ve made it a point to stay up on current news and information. For this reason, I signed up to receive the cnn ‘breaking news’ emails at work. This was what I came into this morning:

……A passenger on a United flight from Washington to Denver apparently tried to set shoe on fire, officials said.

Other than all the pollen, I am enjoying the forest that has finally filled in beyond my balcony. Here’s a shot from yesterday evening.

On the drive in to work this morning, once again I got to thinking about life. (sound the alarms) A certain Daughtry song is very thought-provoking when it comes to second chances in life.

All that I’m after is a life full of laughter, as long as I’m laughin’ with you… All that still matters is love ever after, after the life we’ve been through…’Cause I know there’s no life after you.

Pretty deep.

Prime Time

Ah, the beautiful color of Spring – green yellow.

I don’t really have any insightful thoughts this morning (or crazed ramblings, to the readers’ advantage). My thoughts and prayers do go out to all the families in WVA affected by the terrible mining explosion. I read that it’s the most fatal mining tragedy to occur in America since 1984. What these families must be going through is simply incomprehensible.

Time is really going by fast escaping me, so much so that it’s making my head spin. Really. I told someone yesterday that there just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to get everything done, and then get to bed on time. Bad thing is, I don’t know when all this became so apparent…

I SO want to enjoy the spring and summer months. I wanna sit on my porch and enjoy a bagel and orange juice (minus the bees and wasps, wtf’s up with them this year anyway). I wanna go places. I wanna wear my flip-flops, tank tops and shorts 24/7 (okay, I actually wanna do this year-round). I wanna feel the warm summer night air on my bare skin while listening to the crickets sing. I wanna see the hummingbirds fight for their food. I wanna feel the waves crash on my thighs. I wanna drink a seabreeze while feeling the light tingle of too much sun for the day. I wanna lie on a boat all day long on the lake, jumping in every now and again to cool off. I wanna….

Yep – the time is prime. Too bad there’s just not enough hours in the day to enjoy it.

The local news here in the big city this morning – 2 adults, 2 children dead in apparent murder-suicide. My God. I can’t help but wonder what kind of situation could preempt a horrific act like that. It’s in a ‘good’ part of town, too – which I realize of course means zilch. The entire country world has gone to hell in a handbasket, as my Mammaw used to say.

The human mind is a delicate thing, I suppose. More and more people out there just seem prone to “snap”. I used to have road rage on occasion, I admit it – but now? No way. You have no idea who’s in the car next to you or whether they’ll blow your head off just for reason of you pissing ’em off. We have to worry about this for the upcoming generation, our children. Just leaving the house anymore will put your life in severe danger.

We also had a full moon last night.

On another, more positive note – I get to see my guy tonight. 🙂 We recently made a deal to spend time together at least once during the work week. Now that it’s officially Spring, that shouldn’t be too hard. I find myself wanting to spend more and more time outside.

The end of the week, starting with Good Friday, begins our holiday of Easter. Easter is defined as the Christian celebration of the Resurrection of Christ; celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox.

Today however starts Passover. Many people don’t know the meaning of this Jewish holiday (yes I more than realize I’m not Jewish). Passover commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.

After many decades of slavery to the Egyptian Pharaohs, during which time the Israelites were subjected to backbreaking labor and unbearable horrors, God saw the people’s distress and sent Moses to Pharaoh with a message: “Send forth My people, so that they may serve Me.” But despite numerous warnings, Pharaoh refused to heed God’s command. God then sent upon Egypt ten devastating plagues, afflicting them and destroying everything from their livestock to their crops as well as killing their firstborn. While doing so, God spared the Children of Israel, “passing over” their homes—hence the name of the holiday. Pharaoh’s resistance was broken, and he virtually chased his former slaves out of the land. It is said that the Israelites left in such a hurry, in fact, that the bread they baked as provisions for the way did not have time to rise. 600,000 adult males, plus many more woman and children, left Egypt on that day, and began the trek to Mount Sinai and their birth as ‘God’s chosen people’.

So there’s your history lesson for the day. Interesting stuff.

Freak of nature

Some things in life run unbelievably short of what my mind is able to comprehend. Things. Like Tidal Waves. Mega-scrapers. Terrorism. Sharks. Adultery. A faulty sort of bend in reality is how I feel about these things. Even though life is continually reminding us of their true existence, the full perception of them never seems to develop within my brain. I think that’s why I like to write about these things, bring them to the surface. My fears.

Yeah. All of them seem to fall into that same category. My fears.

I wrote about the  Burj Dubai when it opened. It’s another massive architectural feat that I can’t read or see enough of. I’ve wanted to write something on the Skywalk since I started blogging –  but I think it must blow my mind so much more so than the average person, that I’ve just never been able to convey my thoughts into words. I’ll give it a grave attempt now.

How about this one:

If you were presented with the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon and walk out on the glass skywalk, would you? Or should I ask, could you? Keep in mind, this ain’t no stroll across the mile-high swinging bridge, my friends.

If asked the question above I would respond quickly with a firm no. I personally would be unable to walk even one small step onto the platform. No way, no how. If I were forced, my heart would most certainly fail me then and there. This would be the ultimate test of my own fear of heights, resulting in Epic Fail.

Then again, my fear of heights surpasses that of most others. I abhor the word fear – always have. Rather, I like to think that I’m altitude-challenged. 😀

Situated on the Hualapai Indian Reservation (pronounced wä’lə-pī’), this remarkable achievement in engineering was constructed with more than a million pounds of steel beams including dampeners that minimize the structure’s vibration. It was designed to hold 72 million pounds, withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake 50 miles away, and endure winds in excess of 100 mph. The horseshoe-shaped walkway juts out about 70 feet into the canyon.

It has been estimated the walkway could carry 822 people that weigh 200 pounds each without overstress, but maximum occupancy at one time is limited to 120 people. (The question has been asked, just how comfortable would you be walking alongside 119 other people on this thing? Again, just a personal observation…)

I have to keep reminding myself these measurements are in METERS. Picture source: Skywalk Website (

The Skywalk is commissioned and owned by the Hualapai Indian tribe. According to Hualapai officials, the cost of the Skywalk was $31 million. Future plans for the Grand Canyon Skywalk complex include a museum, movie theater, VIP lounge, gift shop, and several restaurants including a high-end restaurant called The Skywalk Café where visitors will be able to dine outdoors at the canyon’s rim. The Skywalk is only the cornerstone of a much larger plan by the Hualapai tribe, which it hopes will be the incentive for a 9,000-acre expansion to be called Grand Canyon West. This development would precipitate the growth of a 100-mile stretch along the canyon’s South Rim. The vast addition would include hotels, restaurants, a golf course, as well as a cable car to ferry visitors from the canyon rim to the Colorado River – an area which has been previously inaccessible. All this blows my mind… I especially cannot fathom which piece of land they might choose for a golf course.

A short doable 2 1/2 hour drive from Las Vegas, this magnificent framework promises a sure thrill for the not-so-faint-at-heart persons unlike myself. A flat rate adult admission of around $30 allows access to the Skywalk, where you may ‘hang out’ as long as you like up until closing. You know – hang around, have some casual conversation, file your nails, do a little barfing. That type of thing.

People are crazy

Another night of tossing and turning, I got some sleep but certainly not the amount I needed. Guess I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and take a tylenol pm soon.

On the way to work this morning I heard the song by Billy Currington “People are Crazy”. The first thing that came to mind was that professor Amy Bishop that snapped and murdered 3 people, wounding 3 others. Coworkers. Shot ’em at close range in a boardroom meeting. One by one, in the head. Then, one in the chest. Quoting directly from her closest friend in the boardroom at the time, Debra Moriarity – Bishop unloaded the bullets one by one, then turned to her with “intense eyes, a set jaw” and then fired at her. Click. Empty magazine. Shit.

It was Moriarity’s lucky day.

People are crazy, all right. We never who we’re coming in contact with on a daily basis. It’s probably better that we don’t know. Now the stupid bitch is playing insane. “I didn’t kill anybody – they’re still alive.” Sorry, I’m not buying it. Especially now that it’s come out she shot and killed her brother back in ’86. And what about the mail bomb she allegedly sent to the Harvard professor’s office? Oh, I guess she’s not a stupid bitch after all. With an IQ of 160, she’s actually considered quite the genius…

Yep, people are crazy. In this day and time I don’t think you ever can really say you know someone. Some people, anyway. It’s a scary thing and it blows my mind to think of the many instances of people ‘snapping’. Just chilling.

This weather outside today and the weather we’re forecasted to have the rest of the week is gonna give me and everybody else a serious case of spring fever. Carolina blue skies, and semi-warmer temperatures. Birds are singing (and mating, guess that gives them reason to sing 🙂 ). I yearn to get outside again. It’s been a long hard winter…. I’m definitely ready for some life again.

There-there, dear. Shan’t be long, now…

A new perspective

Police photos have just been released of the World Trade Center buildings from above. They show the building and their collapse as seen from a helicopter as it flew alongside the buildings on that fateful day. I figure the pilot of that helicopter probably wished he had eyes in the back of his head that morning, being that two boeing planes had just hit the buildings.

This day in our history is something that’s always in the forefront of my mind. Even if you don’t know me, if you read this blog you’ll already know that. I feel that once we start losing sight of that day, and the horror and loss of American lives, the terrorists will use that weakness to creep in once again. And it will eventually happen, I know…. but I’ll be damned if I won’t do everything in my power to stay informed and remember those people we lost that day.

These pictures really do bring it all back into perspective. There’s only a couple at the end of the buildings still standing, most are pictures of the ash and complete coverage of when the buildings went down. Why are they just now being released? Apparently the research on 9/11 had yet to be completed until 2005, and ABC just made the request to release them under the Freedom of Information act. There are close to 3,000 pictures total, so we’re only seeing a glimpse.

Newly released photos

Another headline-making story this same morning? Iran “is now a nuclear state’ proclaims the head of Iran, Ahmadinejasshole. We knew it was coming. The Bible refers to Iran as Persia, the country remained named so even as recently as WW1. The Bible states that Persia will align with Russia as well as some other north African countries to form an eventual attack on Israel. Trust me, we don’t want to be here when that time comes. I won’t go into this whole shpill again, only to say there’s so much documentation out there you can get your hands on.

It truly pays to be ready.

Shaken, not stirred

I woke up this morning to news of a 4.3 earthquake to the immediate west of our own very own city of  Chicago, IL. Wow, that really hits home. Pardon the pun.

There’s not much being said about it on the news, which surprises me. It scares the crap out of me after what just happened in Haiti. The reports indicate it was ‘widely felt’ even though it happened in the middle of the night. From where the quake was positioned it was reportedly felt across three states: Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Wow.

I don’t know why but this starts me thinking about patterns. Kind of like earthquakes seem to follow a pattern, so do the lives of certain people follow a pattern. More often than not, these are patterns that need to be broken. Be that as it may, if you find yourself repeating the same patterns, like finding yourself in the same situations time and time again – it’s definitely time to take another look at yourself.

From personal experience, I usually won’t even recognize the pattern until I see myself making excuses for it. I’m not proud of the patterns I’ve followed in the past, but there’s this one I seem to fall into over and over again. Even recently, when I’m asked by close friends or family about this particular pattern, I end up trying to cover it up or sugarcoat it. I try to explain my way out of the pattern. I do my best to disguise the fact that there’s no attempt being made by the other person to help their self. I’ve even lied to people about it, I admit it. These lies are easier for me to tell rather than face the truth. But remember, I’ve done it all before – that’s what makes it a pattern. I should be a real Pro at it by now.

Why is this, and where is the logic? When I know, deep down inside I know, that it is what it is….

Which is another pattern that I’ve fallen into.

Sweet songs

Today is deemed the most call-in sick to work day of the year, the Monday after the Superbowl. I personally would have to be on my death bed in order to make that disparaging call in to work on such a famous day for it. It’s a fact though, and I’ve already had two calls from employees. One is going to be late – and the other truly sounds like she was, well – laying on her death bed.

The birds are going nuts outside today. If you closed your eyes while walking outside you would swear it was an early Spring morning. Mating season has begun (no more appropriate time than around Valentine’s Day, huh?) and they are singing and whistling quite loudly. It’s music to my ears.

Every once in a while you get a nice little headline-making story. You’ve probably heard about the massive snowball fight in Washington, after being pounded by a snowstorm that basically shut down the entire city. Today, all federal employees have an official ‘snowday’. Well, good for them.

This massive snowball fight, I’m told, was actually organized on Facebook. What a ‘cool’ way to vent any built up frustration we may be harboring towards our government. 🙂 And, just goes to show how powerful Facebook really is. An estimated 2000 people showed up for the event, where they proceeded to split into two teams and pelt each other.

Snowball Fight in Washington

Back to the brand new workweek. Man I do live for those weekends….

Halfway there, well almost

The sun is supposed to come out today, and it’ll be a most welcome site. My friend and I are planning a walk today after lunch – I’m hoping that’ll be a stroll in the sunshine. The ole’ bod is in bad need of some vitamin D.

Then Friday, more talk of winter weather. Well, just bring it on and get it over with. Makes it that much closer to Spring! Which is only 45 days away… oh I’ve gotta shed this winter coat before then.

So I’ve gotta go there. The Jenny Sanford interview won’t air until Friday night at 10, but I have read the excerpts on it this morning. Faithful. The word. (And my friends and family…. you know it’s a HUGE word to me.)

Gov. Mark Sanford insisted that the clause be removed in his marriage vows that contained the word ‘Faithful’. wtf?? His wife said she was young and just dismissed it. She was 27 when they got married. Besides, if he refused to promise to be faithful, then in Catholic terms, they didn’t have a valid marriage. The vows have to include unconditional faithfulness.

She said in the interview her three sons read the emailed notes that became public, which she said devastated them. “Their world’s been turned upside-down as well. It is something that is now a part of their lives. … They’re not happy. They’re not proud. … It just ripped me up, to see them reading these emails, and to see them have to grow up so fast.”

Now, when this whole thing first blew up, it seemed like it was just Mark who had a pathological urge to keep telling the media more and more and more. But now it’s Jenny too. I don’t get how people are willing to air their dirty laundry publicly, grieve in public, show their humiliation for all the world to see. Are these people devoid of any sense of limits or boundaries? For me personally, it would be hard to expose all this stuff to my family, and we are close!

So help me out here… how exactly will her rehashing all this benefit her three sons again?

Although the subject of infidelity is one that is very touchy to me, and I do feel empathy for all the humiliation that she’s indured – I just don’t agree with her coming forward in television interviews for more bashing. I’ve got one word for you, Jenny Sanford. Memoir.

Oh… you’ve already written one of those? My bad.

Does anyone remember “Love Story” with that idiotic wedding ceremony in it, and at the end they promise to be faithful for “as long as they both shall love”???

A Fallen Survivor

Those who know me know that I’m a lifelong fan of the reality show Survivor. Never missed an episode of the entire 19 seasons, 10 years, that it’s ran.

Jenn Lyon is the first ever loss of a Survivor family member.

This lovely strong lady came in an impressive fourth position on the show’s 10th season, Survivor Palau. She was diagnosed with breast cancer just two short months after the show’s finale. She underwent chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, however two years later, the cancer returned in her bones. Jenn fought long and hard – but lost her battle on January 19, 2010.

It’s shocking. And untimely. She really was a beautiful soul, both inside and out.

Below is a short video arrangement made by a Survivor fan that commemorates Jenn’s time on Survivor Palau. Although the audio consists of music only, this is one awesome video. It not only features the time when she got to swim and play with the dolphins, but provides a visual of her general strength – both physically and characteristically.
Jenn’s Time on Survivor

She refused to succumb to the perils of chemotherapy, instead choosing to host as many fundraisers as possible to help find a cure for breast cancer. This past December, she had been given a final three weeks to live. Instead of retreating to her deathbed, she opened a Christmas Tree lot in Los Angeles with proceeds to benefit breast cancer research. She opted to spend what was to be her last Christmas, and bit of time left on earth, giving of herself to help find a cure.
Jenn’s Christmas Tree Lot

So it appears that our Heavens will shine a little brighter now, since our Lord has chosen a beautiful bright new Angel to reside with Him above. RIP, sweet Lady.

More of the Angry American

Well, the curmudgeon-at-large is at it again. I need to vent.

The tragic quake in Haiti has been devastating and my heart truly goes out to the victims in the wake of it’s tragedy. Although the wholeness of has yet to fully sink in, I do realize the magnitude of the situation.

But now, making headlines, is the fact that they’re ‘angry’. Well. They’re angry. Angry at the miniscule amount of aid they’re receiving. At the lack of sufficient medical supplies. And they say that ‘anger’ is now turning to ‘violence’.

We’re looking at over 9 million people in a country smaller than the state of Maryland. Cripes, people. NINE MILLION. Trying to land a plane into the airport of Port-au-Prince itself is a joke. Planes are being turned away and rerouted because of the limited space availability.

Angry? One must look at the many countries that have literally jumped in to afford them search and rescue, aid and supplies. To see all these different nations, including our own, coming together as one in the aftermath of this great catastrophe, is well, nothing short of amazing.

So we’re bringing many of the injured over here to the US to aid in healthcare. AND GRANTING SAID INDIVIDUALS TEMPORARY CITIZENSHIP.

WE’RE DOING WHAT? What the FUCK is this all about? Listen, I have no problem with providing medical attention to wounded individuals. None at all. But since when did granting any type of citizenship, even temporary, become a prerequisite to providing healthcare? Simple. It didn’t, and it’s not.

In the first place, it’s been determined that literally thousands of escaped prisoners are now running mad among the commoners. It’s just a guess of mine that some of these convicted felons could be the machete-bearing tyrants currently taking over in the streets. If you think for one second that the US is going to background check even one of these injured Haitians, I’ll be first in line to call you a fool.

Secondly, the sister country to their immediate left, the Dominican Republic, has very graciously offered FREE HEALTHCARE to all Haitians. Not discounted. Not reduced. FREE. Is this offer not being heard to the rest of the world? Hmm, I’m kinda confused because see, I myself heard it announced on the evening news….

Thirdly, do you really think these individuals are ever gonna go back to Haiti? Seriously?? NO! What’ll happen is this. They’ll disappear into the crowd. Just fade away, blending back into the masses of all the other imports that we have so wrapped our ever-lovin US of A arms around.

Shhh, do you hear that?? It’s the sound of uncontrollable laughter at the US coming out of the other Nations.

Tiger’s EX?

I’ve avoided the subject so far, at least through writing. But I heard a little break of news this morning that I’ve been wanting to hear since this whole ‘story’ broke.

Wife to leave the golf great?? Well, I don’t believe this will be a shock to anyone. The disturbing story of the infidelities, in which numbers seem to increase daily, has consumed media headlines for weeks now.

One thing is for sure. Two lives are never to be the same. What of the mistresses, you ask – and their lives? I don’t know and really don’t care, to be honest. Being the big girls they are, they knew full well what they were getting into.

Tiger will go on and, eventually, move on as the story fades into a little piece of history. There’s really no choice for him, he’s at the bottom now – this will be a true test for him to pick his self back up and move forward, hopefully having learned from his mistakes. That’s about the nicest I can be when it comes to him, though. After all, he is the one who ‘made his bed’.

Elin, however, has her work cut out for her. I don’t know her or what she was like before. At the very least I’m picturing a beautiful vibrant woman who was slammed full of self-confidence – who has now been reduced to someone that’ll have trust issues for the rest of her life. The sheer humiliation of what she’s enduring is heart-wrenching to the public that doesn’t even know her. Any person – be it a man or a woman, who has ever had to endure the pain and humiliation of a cheating spouse can empathize with her. I simply cannot imagine though, the mass quantity of these ‘instances’.

I hope, for her sake, that it’s true she’s leaving. To move on from this horrible set of events in her life, allowing her to eventually find someone who will love her the way she deserves to be loved. Apparently that’s a rare find nowadays.

The United States of the Offended

I’m one angry individual this morning.

Fort Hood. The sense of it. An avoidable tragedy? I don’t even know where to start on the subject, or even if I want to start. It would almost seem like a disservice to not say something about it….

I don’t really care how others see or take my views – I want to make that perfectly clear. I don’t CARE if I offend anyone. What in holy hell is our military thinking by employing, or retaining employment of, a terrorist?? With all the documented statements he’s made – and I’ve done a lot of reading this morning – what the hell made everybody keep quiet?

Has America been silenced this damn much? “Oh no, don’t say that… it might offend…” Do you think this man, Nidal Malik Hasan, worried about offending anyone with his views and statements? Which turned into horrific actions because no one wanted to OFFEND him?? This has obviously become an ‘Anything Goes America’. To everyone, that is, except Americans.

Does the term 9/11 mean anything to anyone anymore? There is not a day in my life that goes by that I don’t think about it. Sometimes I may even dwell on it a little too much – but brother, I’ll take that dwelling any day, as opposed to letting it fade away. Go ahead, call ME miss misery. Remind me in my dreams Dear Lord, every night if you must, but never let the memory of that horrible event fade from my mind.

God help us.
